Staying Healthy With Diabetes

The following areas of health need to be accounted for to ensure that you stay healthy with diabetes:

Blood Glucose-

Set goals for your blood glucose.  Test your blood glucose by using a blood glucose meter that will help stay on track of your goals.

Blood Pressure-

Make sure that your blood pressure is at a resonable rate (avoid high blood pressure).  To acheive this, you may have to change eating habits and take pills to lower blood pressure.

Cholesterol-

Eating haits will help ensure that your cholesterol stays stable.  Having high cholesterol can lead to heart disease and stroke.

Healthy Eating-

Eat healthy.  Eating healthy is the key to good health.  You can speak to a health care professional in order to receive a dietary plan that will be used as a guide to healthy eating.

Physical Activity-

Stay fit and participate in physical activity daily.  There is different routes can you can take to physical activity that best suites you.  You should paricipate in at least 150 minutes per week.

Weight-

Control your weight.  Ensure that you target a weight that will be healthy for you.  Stay active and strong.

Eye Disease-

See an eyecare professional to ensure your riskfor eye disease is low.

Foot Care-

Ingrown toenails, cuts and sores on the feet can lead to serious infections.  Take care of your feet in order to avoid this type of disease.

Smoking-

Do not smoke, as smoking contributes to complications with diabetes, such as hear disease and blood pressure issues.

To ensure that you stay healthy with diabetes, have regular visits with your health care pofessional, and focus specifically on your diabetes.  Have regular tests to identify the seriousness of your diabetes, and so you can be aware of the changes that may occur with your diabetes over a course of time. 

If you have diabetes, you are at increased risk for heart disease and stroke, and other complications such as eye and kidney disease, nerve damage and foot problems. Keeping your blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol in a healthy range can reduce your
risk of complications.
Learn your diabetes ABCs. Talk to your doctor about the Canadian Diabetes Association’s recommendations for diabetes management,what targets are healthy for you, and how to achieve and maintain them over time.
